Eat Carbs to
Lose Weight
Eat carbs to lose weight? This is preposterous
to many who have bought into the Atkin's Diet and the many
other low carb diets. Everywhere you look today you will find
low carbohydrate foods and drinks. Everything from frozen
dinners to pasta has a low carb alternative.
Nobody thinks you can eat carbs to lose weight
anymore.
Should we measure carbs or simply try to
eliminate them as much as possible? There is much confusion on
whether or not to eat carbs to lose weight. Some teach that you
must drastically cut your carbs to lose belly fat while others
hold opposite views.
Carbohydrates were the food of choice for high
energy and optimum athletic performance for many years. We were
taught that fat made us fat and carbs made us lean. We didn't
measure carbs, we measured fat grams.
The Atkin's diet came along and taught us that
we can't eat carbs to lose weight. We should restrict carbs and
eat plenty of protein and fat. But who is right in all of this
confusion?
Is it possible that both sides may be somewhat
correct? We must take into account that each individual had a
different metabolic makeup. So, maybe no single diet program to
lose belly fat is best for everyone.
Tom Venuto in his book, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle, proposes a
low carbohydrate diet- done with a new twist. He believes
this can "accelerate
fat loss beyond anything you've experienced
before."

This program is nothing like the low carb diet
taught by Atkins. You will be eating plenty of complex carbs
and minimizing high fat foods.
Most programs that promise to help you lose
belly fat begin with a "crash diet." The reason they do this is
so that you won't get discouraged when you don't lose belly fat
quickly.
These plans always fail if your goal is to
permanently lose weight. You simply must eat carbs to lose
weight and keep it off. The low carb diets fail because you
can't maintain them for the long term.
Tom Venuto actually includes an advanced low
carb, high protein diet in his book. He lets you know this is
an "advanced" technique. You will already be losing fat and
burning muscle before you implement this technique. Tom is big
on complex carbs so don't worry about them getting left
out.
His point is that this type of diet is
pointless if you haven't mastered the eight fundamentals of the
baseline diet:
-
Eating fewer calories than you
burn.
-
Properly balancing you macronutrient ratios.
-
Eating five or six meals per day, properly timed.
-
Eating lean proteins with every meal.
-
Eating carbs to lose weight; the right carbs, not
refined sugars.
-
Eating low fat and choosing the right types of fat.
-
Drinking plenty of water.
-
Eating natural, unrefined foods.
It is very important to remember that most
people do not need a low carb diet to get lean. You can and
should eat carbs to lose weight. It is the quality of the carbs
you eat that is important. You should be eating plenty of
complex carbs.
